Buster Johnson is the founder, owner, and Chief Executive Candy-maker of Buster’s Homemade Pecan Candy. Buster’s love for pecan candy began as a child from his father’s own secret recipe in Vacherie, Louisiana. The recipe was shared with Buster’s mother and then passed on to his sister, who would sometimes ask him to provide the muscle for stirring the creamy confection. On New Year’s Eve of 2001, fate stepped in when Buster’s sister asked him to make a batch of candy for their New Year’s celebration. When their mom tasted Buster’s batch, she exclaimed that “it was the best batch of candy she’d ever tasted!” The ingredients were the same, but Buster had the magic touch. Thus, she encouraged him to continue the tradition of making their family recipe. Sadly, his mother died a mere 8 days later. Her words continued to live in Buster, and he knew making this special pecan candy was his calling. Soon, he was inundated with requests for candy, so much so that he decided to price it and sell it in his neighborhood. The word quickly spread and to this day, the demand for Buster’s Homemade Pecan Candy is growing by leaps and bounds. Buster’s Candy can now be found in markets across the state of Louisiana, but his dream is for his candy to be available nationwide. He wants the candy to be a blessing to others by simply adding a little sweetness to someone’s day.
